Local jobseeker builds a future with Invest

Jobseeker Connor McDermott was looking for a career in construction and joinery, but struggling to find a job.

But his luck changed when he found Invest’s Youth Employability Service, based at the Youth Hub, at Assurance House in Paisley.

Connor, 18, had completed two years of a Construction and Joinery course at college, but had no work experience. At the Youth Hub, he met with an advisor who helped him improve his CV, work on his interview skills and put him forward for the CSCS card course.

The CSCS course helps participants work towards a Construction Skills Certification Scheme card – which allows cardholders to work in the construction industry.

After that, Connor got a job at the Professional Beauty Systems warehouse. He’s grateful for the support he received at the Hub, and encourages other unemployed young people to access help there.

He said: “I managed to get a job despite having no work experience – I’d advise anyone in the same boat to access support from the Youth Hub.”
