Funding helps business hit the right note

Chris Allan and Alan McEwan had a brilliant business idea, and the perfect location for it, but knew that without financial support they’d struggle to get things off the ground so turned to Business Gateway for assistance.

Thanks to guidance from their Business Gateway adviser the friends successfully applied for support through the New Start Growth Fund and the Young Company Development Fund, which helped them to open Brick Lane Studios.

Aimed at helping to promote start-up development and support young companies with vital costs in the early stages of trading; the two funding schemes are being offered through Renfrewshire Council to local entrepreneurs working with Business Gateway. Chris said:

We wanted to open a recording and rehearsal studio in Weir Street, Paisley but needed to build internal studios for the purpose of noise reduction and acoustic performance in the building. Without the help of Business Gateway and the funding support we wouldn’t have been able to do that and www.bricklanestudiospaisley.co.uk would have been a complete non-starter.

Graeme Currie, Business Gateway, said: “We’re delighted that with our support and advice, Chris and Alan were able to produce a business plan that demonstrated the longer term viability of their business idea and so supported their funding application.”
