Following a recent tender exercise, a number of legal firms have been recently appointed to the Renfrewshire City Deal Framework for the provision of legal services. As part of the tender exercise, the successful tenderers have offered various ‘community benefits’, including a programme of free seminars for local businesses.

The Potential Pitfalls of Operating Commercial Vehicles
Monday 18 September, 2.00pm – 3.30pm InCube Business Base, 27 High Street, Paisley, PA1 2AF Presenter – Tom Docherty (Senior Associate, Transport / Operator Licensing)
Aimed at any business that employs drivers, this seminar covers the rules and regulatory processes applicable to both vehicles and drivers and the liabilities for the business when things go wrong ‘on the road’, e.g. vehicle problems and driving offences. For businesses with Large Goods Vehicles (over 3.5 tonnes) the seminar will also cover operator licences, Traffic Commissioner, Public Inquiries, DVSA etc.

Credit Control and Debt Recovery
Wednesday 20 September, 10.00am – 11.30am Engage Renfrewshire, Falcon Crescent Presenters – Karen Ogilvie (Commercial Debt Recovery Manager) and Gillian Jamieson (Senior Associate, Commercial Contracts / Damages / Appeals)
The seminar will explain the practical steps a business can take to help minimise credit control problems – setting up robust systems from the outset (e.g. best invoicing practice and the robust record keeping) and, if recovery is necessary, the various options available. It will also cover the steps a business can take in the event of a dispute.

Targeted at small and medium sized businesses, this seminar is suitable for those considering entering into a new lease/buying premises for the first time and also those coming towards to end of an existing lease. The seminar will highlight the potentially immense and hidden liabilities for tenants, e.g. repair costs, common charges and dilapidations and provide advice on how to negotiate the best position achievable.

The seminar is aimed at small and medium sized businesses interested in bidding for larger tenders or becoming national framework suppliers. It covers the practical considerations involved in forming consortia, joint ventures or sub-contracting and outlines the pros and cons, risks and legal implications. |
