Kickstart Progression for Young Parents
Megan lives with her partner and their baby boy. She had been unemployed for over 6 months and was looking for an opportunity to gain practical work experience to get her back into work. She was eligible for a Kickstart position and was offered the role of peer support within the youth team at Invest in Renfrewshire. She thrived in this role and it gave her the opportunity to develop her skills in the workplace. She has now moved into a full-time job working as an employability advisor for Fedcap Scotland. Her Kickstart opportunity within Invest gave her the confidence to apply for this type of role. Both Megan and her partner were supported through the Parental Employability Support Fund programme within Invest in Renfrewshire.
Megan supported Lauren a young parent when working at Invest in Renfrewshire.
Lauren was herself a young parent and she didn’t know about Invest and the services that they could offer to her. She was referred to Invest from her DWP Work coach. She expressed an interest in a Kickstart opportunity working at M & Co as an HR assistant and was successful in gaining the position. Through her hard work and motivation, she has now been offered a permanent position and is looking forward to a career within HR.

Lauren commented “I wish I had known about Invest sooner and I wouldn’t have been out of work as long as I was. I would recommend anyone looking for employability support to get registered and you will be in work in no time”
