Conner McLeod is now a step closer to achieving his dream of being a football coach – thanks to a placement secured through Invest in Renfrewshire.
The 21-year-old’s employment advisor was able to support him through a placement (which involves six months of work experience) and then a traineeship at Renfrewshire Leisure.
He said: “The traineeship has built up my confidence. I’m realising I can do things I didn’t think I was able to.”
Conner was at college studying Sport and Fitness, but found the traineeship has enhanced his knowledge and improved his skills even further. He said:
The best part is meeting new people, and doing something I enjoy. I’ve had the opportunity to work in the leisure industry and get a foot in the door with Renfrewshire Leisure.
Conner hopes he can finally achieve his dream of being a full-time football coach after his traineeship, and recommends Invest’s youth service to other young people.
He said: “Placements are a great way to get an insight into a job without there being too much pressure on you.
“The Youth Service has helped a lot – and I feel comfortable using it. There’s always someone there who can help.”
