McAusland Crawford gets a flavour for success with Invest

Food manufacturer McAusland Crawford used to have to wait days for results, until they appointed a graduate intern through Invest.

The company, specialising in spices and seasonings, wanted to move the So2 food testing (which tests for sulphur dioxide) onsite, as waiting times were over ten days. Through the Invest in Renfrewshire, they appointed a graduate intern, Claire Currie, who now conducts the tests at the company site.

The move means more testing can be done, the quality of testing is higher, and any errors can be resolved before food leaves the site. The quicker results also saved the business money and time – the most important factors in business.

The company also received a business grant through Invest, which allowed them to install new equipment to facilitate Claire’s job, and Invest in Renfrewshire helped them every step of the way.

Marian Walker, the Technical Manager at McAusland Crawford, speaks highly of Invest’s internship scheme.

I think it’s a great scheme – I was involved in recruiting Claire and have passed our story onto other businesses who have also went on to gain support through Invest. We might not have managed this without Invest’s help, and I’d like to thank Gary and Natalie from the Business team for their help.
