Local contractors play key role in restoring historic Paisley building.
The Russell Institute has been one of Paisley’s most distinctive buildings for the best part of a century.
With it being closed since 2011, CBC [Central Building Contractors Ltd] is currently in the process of restoring the iconic building for Renfrewshire Council.
As part of a community benefit activity, they have recently recruited unemployed worker Shaun Reid, 28, to join the team.
Site Manager Andrew McAdam said Shaun is the “Type of guy you want on this site. He is self motivated and very adaptable to most jobs.”
The business is currently looking to put him through additional qualifications because is he is a good employee.
Shaun started with CBC in the position of Labourer and said:
I have worked alongside joiners and bricklayers on new build and refurbishment sites gaining additional experience in these fields. I feel that there are opportunities to succeed and progress with regards to receiving training from the company.
The main target of CBC is to restore the building sympathetically whilst keeping period features, before developing it into an office environment.
Work on the building is aiming to be completed by October.
Andrew highlighted the importance of using local contractors and says how a vast majority of sub-contractors are from the Renfrewshire area.
The Community Benefit of the project is recognised. Andrew said:
“There should be a legacy during the construction process, it’s for the community and should have a lasting effect.”
